This road movie, set in Hiroshima, is based on a short story published in 2013 by Haruki Murakami, an author with enthusiastic fans all over the world.

The movie "The Blood of Wolves" is based on the best-selling novel by Yuko Yuzuki.

The story is set in 1988, in Kurehara, Hiroshima, before the Anti-Boryokudan Law was enacted. Hioka Shuichi (Matsuzaka Tori), who has been assigned to a local police station, is in charge of investigating the disappearance of a financial company employee together with Ogami Shogo (Yakusho Koji), a detective who is rumored to be in cahoots with the Yakuza. Hioka is confused by Ogami's investigation. The disappearance leads to an intensification of the conflict between rival gangs...

This film was shot entirely in Hiroshima. More than 80% of the film was shot in various locations in Kure City, including the former Kure City Water Supply and Sewerage District and Nakadori Shopping Street.
