Brick Street
"Brick Street" is the busiest shopping street in Kure City. It was nicknamed "Brick Street" because it was once paved with bricks. This brick street is lined with a variety of famous shops selling Kure-only meals such as "thin udon" and "gansu," traditional sweets, and souvenirs. (The shopping street is closed mainly on Tuesdays.)
"Kure High-Colored Restaurant" in the Village of Invitation

The final dessert is the legendary shiratama zenzai, which was supposed to be eaten on the night the battleship Yamato sank. Other Navy gourmet dishes such as meat and potatoes and whale cutlet are also available as single items.
Aoyama Club (former Kure Navy NCO meeting hall)
Aoyama Club was opened in 1903 as the Kure Naval Petty Officers Assembly Hall, a welfare facility for non-commissioned officers and sailors, and was renamed the Kure Naval Petty Officers and Enlisted Personnel Assembly Hall in 1921. In 1936, it was given its current modern appearance made of reinforced concrete, and during the war it was a popular place connecting the navy and citizens. After the war, it was used by the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces until their withdrawal in 1956. After their withdrawal, the Maritime Self-Defense Forces used it as a welfare facility and other facilities until 2017. You can currently see the exterior.
Nagasako Park (former naval cemetery)
Opened in 1890 as a burial ground for naval personnel, the site is home to gravestones for British sailors and others erected before the war, a monument to those killed in battle on the Yamato battleship, and a memorial monument praying for lasting peace. In 1986, the site was combined with city land to create Nagasako Park, covering an area of approximately 2.9 hectares, which is now visited by many people.
A hill where history can be seen
It is a representative place where you can feel the history since the establishment of Kure Naval District in 1889. You can see old naval facilities such as the Kure District Inspection Office of the Maritime Self-Defense Force (former Kure Naval District Office Building), which was built in 1906, and the remains of factories from the old naval factory era, including the dock where giant ships such as the battleship Yamato were built.

The surrounding area has a retro atmosphere with rows of brick buildings from the former naval arsenal, and the battleship Yamato was built in secrecy in a nearby dock. The name "Alley Karasukojima" comes from the name of a small island called "Karasukojima" (30-40m in circumference) in Kure Bay (filled in as a torpedo launching training ground during the Taisho era) and the English word "alley". Why not take a leisurely stroll through the alley (alley) surrounded by greenery and brick colors? Together with the Kure Municipal Museum of Art, it forms the cultural zone of Irifuneyama Park. The former Kure Naval District Commander-in-Chief's official residence was restored to its original appearance after documents from its construction in 1905 were discovered, and it was designated as a national important cultural property in December 1998. The former Kure Naval Arsenal Tower Clock, one of the oldest electric parent-child impulse clocks made in Japan, which kept time together with the Kure Arsenal until the end of the war, is also preserved.
Array Karasu Kojima
Submarines and escort ships belonging to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's Kure Base are anchored in Kure Bay, which spreads out before you, and you can also see the old torpedo lifting and lowering cranes up close. If you go at sunrise or sunset, you can see the national flags of each ship and the Self-Defense Force flag being raised and lowered.

This facility, which is centered around the former Kure Naval District Commander-in-Chief's official residence (designated as a national important cultural property in 1998), includes a local museum, a history and folk museum (modern document museum), and more, and allows visitors to trace the history of Kure. Located on the eastern end of Kurahashi Island in the southern part of Kure City, this is the site of a firing test site where the cannons of the battleship Yamato were tested. Remains of measuring stations, inspection stations, piers, and other structures built as a naval fortress area remain. In 1900, the navy established a cannon firing test site (Kamegakubi Cannon Firing Site) on Kurahashi Island. The Kamegakubi Cannon Firing Site played an important role in realizing the domestic production of weapons, especially large-caliber cannons, and tests of the 46-cm cannons mounted on the Yamato-class battleships were also conducted there.
