"Suzu-san's House"

Guide map
Suzu, 18, is a married woman who moves to Kure City, a naval town. Surrounded by her husband Shusaku and his family, she ingeniously gets by and lives her life to the fullest, even as the things close to her are lost in the war. "Suzu-san's House" was modeled after the house where the main character Suzu lived, and was donated by the manga artist and original author Kono Fumiyo. The layout of the Hojo family home where Suzu lived in the animated film "In This Corner of the World" has been reproduced using interlocking wood and concrete in different colors. There is a guide board designed by Kono Fumiyo and stools with original designs. The illustrations throughout the building are also not to be missed.

The movie "Umizaru" (released in 2004)
"Two Hundred Steps Between the Castles"
The film Umizaru is a passionate tale of the setbacks and growth of young Japan Coast Guard officers who are on the front lines of sea rescue and undergo rigorous training to become divers. In the film, the 200 Steps of Ryojo were used to film the training scenes of trainees in wetsuits running up the stairs with oxygen tanks on their backs. The surrounding Ryojo district was hardly damaged by air raids during the war, and you can still get a glimpse of the scenery from long ago. There is also a rare sight of houses lined up next to each other along the mountain, known as the "Step Houses (100 Steps of Ryojo)." The view of Kure city from the top of the stairs is outstanding.
